In the Christian world, one notices a different wave moving in the ocean of the music industry. The Christian music segment has a range of particularities and is a market that grows continuously every year. Regardless of whether you are a Christian or not, you need to know these singers and their songs released in 2018, and compare with what has had more views and hits in the non-Christian music market.
It’s nice to see when artists show that they know how to use the technical and stylistic elements of singing, as well as exploring their vocal range – going from the lowest notes to the high notes high up there.
As for the instrumentation, it is no different: there is also a spectacle of talent in the Christian world.
For Christian musicians, what matters the most is the message behind the lyrics (well, at least, this is how it should be). And along with the lyrics, the honesty you sing or play your instrument is way important.
In Brazil, as well as in other countries, artists are admired by their creativity, mainly when they try “to row against the current”. Brazilian Christians are proud of their singers and musicians – it can be said that the churches of Brazil and other countries are barns of talent.
The Protestant church in the United States has also been a barn of prominent singers who began singing in church, such as Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, John Legend, Diana Ross, and so on.
Let’s get started, then, with my list of the best Christian songs released in 2018.
1. Gabriel Rocha – Lugar Secreto (Secret Place)
This Brazilian singer is known by her powerful expression and voice.
2. The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir – Psalm 34
This is the one I heard the most in 2018, definitely! I love love love choirs! I had the privilege of, a little while ago, going to The Brooklyn Tabernacle, in NYC. If you ever get the chance to be there in the city on a Sunday, I would say it is a must-see. Have you been there yet?
3. for KING & COUNTRY – God Only Knows
These two Australian brothers make some awesome music videos.
4. Marcela Tais & Pregador Luo – Sobrevivi (I survived)
5. Andrew Peterson – Is He Worthy
I played this song on my radioshow multiple times this year. It is so soul-touching. It sounds to me like heavenly music.
6. Cory Asbury – Reckless Love
I think this was one of the most sung songs in churches, retreats, and church conferences in 2018, in Brazil. Maybe in other countries as well?
7. Leandro Borges & Sandrinha – Um Refrão Pra Sua Alma (A Chorus to your Soul)
8. Preto no Branco & Sync 3- Meu Grande Amor (My Greatest Love)
This is a very Brazilian-ish soul song.
9. So Will I (100 Billion X) – Hillsong Worship
10. Marcela Tais – Vai Passar Rápido
11. Lauren Daigle – Look Up Child
12. Tori Kelly – Never Alone (ft. a joyous Kirk Franklin)
13. Brian Courtney Wilson – A Great Work
14. Ada Ahi – On My Matter
And representing the Africa on this list, we have Ada Ehi (Nigeria).
15. Lauren Daigle – You Say
16. Michael W. Smith – Surrounded
“Michael, I love you! One day I wanna go to a concert of yours”.
17. Zach Williams – Survivor (live from the Harding Prison)
18. Ernie Haase & Signature Sound – Clear Skies
19. for KING & COUNTRY – Amen
20. Gateway Worship – Living Water
21. David e Nicole Binion & Tasha Cobbs – Doxology [Hallelujah]
22. Who You Say I Am – Hillsong Worship
1. Leandro Borges e Vanilda Bordieri – Cresça
Leandro’s arrangements are totally out of the box, and I love it! The studio version is amazing! It is worth listening to.
2. Coral Kemuel – Oh Quão Lindo Esse Nome É (What a Beautiful Name) (Hillsong)
Their vocal arrangements are something else.
3. Arianne & Priscilla Alcantara – Primeiro Amor (Rebanhão) (First Love)
4. Sync3 – Nos Braços do Pai (Diante do Trono) (In the Father’s Arms)
