This is not a list of the biggest hits of 2018. It’s also not a list of the songs with the most views on YouTube. These are the best songs in several aspects: vocal quality of the artist, lyrics message, or vocal / instrumental arrangement. No twerking involved, no butts spinning from top to bottom and bottom to top – only great music. You have to check it out.
What is happening to music industry?
If we want different songs and artists, what should we do? Should we stop giving attention to the same celebrities?
The market follows the wishes of its consumers, ie if we continue to click on videos with more views on YouTube (even if out of curiosity) and if we leave the TV on the channel where the artist you do not support is singing, the market will continue to understand that people want it.
Want the media to promote different things? Want musicians like these to get more attention? I would say that from this list only Lady Gaga and Ed Sheeran get top attention. Show the industry what you want.
I picked THE BEST SONGS OF 2018 based on songs that:
1) have a good message and / or;
2) do not objectify woman and / or;
3) do not deprave the body and / or;
4) do not promote drugs & alcohol and / or;
5) show the vocal quality of the artist and / or;
6) have an interesting instrumental arrangement.
Let’s get started!
1. The Greatest Showman – This Is Me (Keala Settle & The Greatest Showman Ensemble)
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
2. The Greatest Showman – Never Enough (Loren Allred)
3. OneRepublic – Connection
If there’s so many people here, then why am I so lonely?
Can I get a connection?

4. OneRepublic – Start Again ft. Logic
Can’t I just turn back the clock?
Forgive my sins
I just wanna roll my sleeves up
And start again
5. Calum Scott & Leona Lewis – You Are The Reason
6. Backstreet Boys – Chances
The introduction is very similar to Cecilia Krull’s My Life Is Going On, from La Casa de Papel series, is not it?
Backstreet Boys (or Backstreet Men) are really awesome. Even two decades later they remain active and manage to have a modern repertoire without losing the essence of the group’s style.
7. Patrick Fiori – Chez nous
Success in France on the issue of “immigration”, a subject quite in vogue. At the end of the song there is a children’s choir.
8. Michael Bublé – Such A Night
Oh, great. How I like an instrumental arrangement so neat!
9. Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes
10. twenty one pilots – Jumpsuit
11. Gabrielle Aplin – My Mistake
Such sweet voice!
12. Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper – I’ll Never Love Again
In 2018, two movies brought fantastic music to our ears: A Star is born and The Greatest Showman.
13. Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper – Shallow
This song has garnered numerous Grammy nominations.
14. Lady Gaga – Always Remember Us This Way
Although she is a great artist, I was never a fan of Ms. Gaga, but in this movie she conquered me with her super performances, full of feeling and beautiful siging. Wow!
Bradley Cooper has directed and is said to receive several Oscar nominations from this movie.
Well, there is a movie that was also directed by an actor, but did not receive all this attention and I think it should have received. So here I’m going to do an advertisement: “Before We Go,” directed by Hollywood darling Chris Evans, also known as Captain America. Worth watching – a simple and meaningful production.
15. Ed Sheeran – Happier
16. Dean Lewis – Be Alright
17. Jacob Lee – I Belong to You

18. Jason Mraz – Might As Well Dance
This is the Jason Mraz we know: full of love songs and the feel-good vibe. This song is part of the album “Know” which is a delight to listen to. All the songs are very good.
19. Jason Mraz & Meghan Trainor – More than friends
20. John Mayer – New Light
Did you feel the 80’s? And what is this? In the clip it looks like John Mayer won a green screen and was happy playing with it all day long. Haha. Very cool!
21. Jason Aldean – You Make It Easy
22. Jordan Smith – Feel Good
What a powerful voice!
23. Jordan Smith – Only Love
Only love, only love can save us now
Keep the world from burning down, down, down
To the ground, ground, ground
Only love, can look inside a human heart
And see us for who we are
And who we are would be enough
If only there was only love
Powerful lyrics and melody!
